旧版的《我的世界》世界看起来像是瑞士奶酪。地下，特别是在10层左右，是空荡和丑陋的。我从来不喜欢这样，于是我决定设计各种探测器来找到矿石，而不必挖空整个世界。

这些矿石探测器不会输出找到的矿石的类型和坐标，也不会扫描整个世界。那样是作弊的。但它们确实比挖矿要快一点。

它们都通过回声定位工作。当它们用于固体表面时，它们会发出三声响亮的敲击声，这些声音在岩石中的传播速度是向前两倍于向侧面，然后从某些方块反射出来。每个探测器发出不同的声音，其反射方式也不同。回声的音量和返回时间取决于方块的距离。音调和可能出现的粒子有助于识别方块。

虚空探测器发出的声音从非固体方块（如空气、水、岩浆和一些其他部分透明的方块）反射。
